The Minima from Astro Lighting – A Best Selling Downlight

The Minima from Astro Lighting is undoubtedly their best selling downlight range, and with good reason. With 30 variants in the range, a choice of round or square, black or white, integrated and non-integrated, and even adjustable versions there is a downlight to suit every installation. We take a closer look at the Minima range to see what makes them so popular.

The first thing you notice about the minima is the style. The slimline trim does away with the need for a wide bezel, and the recessed baffled lamp is the hallmark of every Minima downlight. Designed to look clean and contemporary whilst reducing glare, the matt white finish fits effortlessly into your surroundings.

The most popular in the range is the Minima Round Fixed Fire-Rated version (1249034). Using a GU10 lamp means you can choose exactly what light output, beam angle, and colour temperature you want. Being a GU10 type of downlight also means the product is fully dimmable with the appropriate bulb.

We recommend pairing with our excellent range of BELL GU10 bulbs. Better still, with an IP65 rating, these downlights are also suitable for Zone 1 in the bathroom, so you can achieve a consistent look throughout your home. The Minima round is also available as an IP20 non-fire-rated version and in a matt black.

Moving up the range is the adjustable version of the Minima round (1249040). Being adjustable the product is rated only to IP20, but is fully fire-rated. The angle is adjustable to 30 degrees, and offers a fully 360 degree rotatable gimble, so you can direct the light exactly where you need it. Perfect for lighting artwork or washing down a wall. Again being GU10 means the lamp choice is up to you.

For a really unique and contemporary look to your lighting, consider the Minima square downlight version. The 1249038 fully IP65, matt white version with replaceable lamp oozes style when used in the kitchen and other living areas. With an IP20 adjustable version also available they are excellent for use above central islands where light can be directed to where it’s needed.

To compliment the range, the Minima is also available as a fully integrated downlight. This means the LED light source is built in, so you won’t need to worry about changing bulbs. The round integrated version (1249023) is available as an IP65 version giving a superb 665 lumens, and even a CRI of 90. This higher colour rendering means colours look even more true to life. Most residential downlights and GU10’s will have a CRI of 80. The colour temperature of 2700k provides a homely warm white appearance and is perfect for all living areas and bedrooms. Of course, the integrated model is also available as a square version (1249024).

Finally it’s worth mentioning the twin unit, with dual output (1249028). These are a real hit in kitchens where more light is required over task areas, and being adjustable means you can direct the light exactly where you need it most. A multiple unit placed near the wall units for example means you can direct one lamp towards the cupboard and the other towards the worktop.
